The Family History of Sonny’s Transfer Moving & Storage
The company was founded by Forest, also known as “Sonny”, and his wife Norita Morris in 1981. Sonny began moving furniture for Floyd Thomas Grapes at the age of 14. Through the years he worked for Homer Grapes Moving Company, City Transfer, Klavuhn Moving and Mayflower. He served his country and was a proud Marine. He worked as a Carman at Chessie System (CSX) until his retirement in 1995 with over 30 years of service.
Because of his passion for the moving business, he purchased his first moving truck and began operations in 1981. His brother, Raymond, also known as “Moe”, and his two sons, Butch and Keith were the first employees. He purchased his first warehouse for furniture storage in 1983 and the second warehouse in 1987. He was the owner/operator until his death in 2004.
His wife, Norita is the current owner/operator and is active in the daily operations of the company. Her sons, Butch and Keith are active in the business and her daughters Norita and Vickie assist in the office. Johnny Crosten began his career in 1988 and is the foreman.
